Description
These lists were obtained from the records of Julia Godman Ruuttila, who prepared them from documents she took from Elmer Smith's office. In 1936 and headquartered in Portland, Julia joined the "Free Ray Becker" committee. She visited the offices of the Centralia Publicity Committee located in Elmer Smith's old office. When everyone was gone for lunch, she took some of Smith's papers and used them to compile these lists. When she showed the alleged "lynch list" to Bob Burrows, who had witnessed the lynching of Wesley Everest near his home, he told her she'd left two names out. Some names have been crossed off and others added, along with a brief note. However, it's not known who made these changes and when they were made.
